Bad to the bone? Nope. More like chilled to the bone. If you’re always freezing, think AC is the worst, and can’t seem to ever get warm no matter how many layers you’re blanketed in, we feel you! The good news is that there’s something you can do about it! These life-changing products will keep you toasty-warm — whether you’re in the bitter cold, a freezing office, or just chilling (literally) on the couch. We’ve researched and tested a bunch of cool products that’ll keep you far from cool. So, shop our favorite picks below and say sayonara to shivers.
1. ororo Lightweight Heated Vest With Battery Pack
This heated zipper vest will give you the courage to brave the cold, since you can’t take your electric blanket with you everywhere. It comes with a rechargeable battery that’s about the size of a bifold wallet and has three heat settings.
When we tested the vest, we found it to be stylish and slightly puffy — but not so much that you’ll feel like a marshmallow. It heats up within 30 seconds and warms your back, sides, neck, and shoulders. Our only complaint is that the breast logo illuminates, which is distracting — especially at nighttime. If vests aren’t your thing, ororo also sells a heated hoodie!
2. Ecuadane Large Southwestern Artisan Handmade Blanket
This snuggleworthy alpaca-blend blanket is handcrafted by artisans in Ecuador. Not only is it absolutely beautiful, it feels so luxuriously soft that we wanted to bury our face into it.
Through the month of December, 100% of proceeds from Ecuadane’s online sales will go to build five homes for five families displaced in the devastating 2016 earthquake in Ecuador. Not only will you feel good underneath it, you can also feel good knowing you helped out a family in need.
3. Zippo 6-Hour Green Rechargeable Hand Warmer
This bean-shaped hand warmer nestles comfortably in your cold palms. During our test with it, we found that it heats up in less than a minute and appreciated its compact form factor. It’s plenty small enough to fit in a jacket pocket and was more reliable than disposable hand warmers.
Compared to disposable hand warmers, this one offers five different heat settings and its temperature didn’t fluctuate as much. You just press a button to turn it on and don’t need to shake it or squeeze it like a traditional hand warmer. It even has a USB port for recharging your smartphone! If it were cheaper, we’d probably take two of them!
4. The Comfy Blanket Sweatshirt
Once you put this oversized hoodie on, you’ll never want to take it off. Don’t believe me? Ask our lifestyle editor Brian Murray Jr., who is officially obsessed!
The Comfy — which appeared on an episode of Shark Tank — has a soft microfiber on the outside and a cozy sherpa material on the inside.
Whether you’re outside by the campfire, at the movies, or on the couch, you’ll feel like you’re on a cloud. It’s insanely comfortable, but according to Murray, “it may cause an incessant desire to nap,” which is problematic in an office setting!
5. Haven Towel Warmer
Stepping out of the shower into the cold and cruel world is the worst. This nifty towel warmer makes it much more bearable. All you have to do is plop in your towel, press a single button to turn it on, and by the time you’re finished showering, you’ll have a warm towel waiting for you.
During our tests with the warmer, we found that it’s smaller than a laundry basket, it accommodates two towels, and warms them up to 120 degrees Fahrenheit. We also loved using it to heat up our robe or PJs before bedtime.
6. Embr Wave Bracelet
The Embr Wave is essentially a personal thermostat you wear on your wrist. Just press and hold its thin light bar on the left side for cold or the right side for hot. Embr Labs, which was founded by four scientists at MIT, says that after wearing the device for 3 minutes, you can feel up to 5 degrees warmer or cooler.
We tested the bracelet — and although it seems bulky (especially if you have dainty wrists), it truly works like magic. You would think that only your wrist would get hot, but it doesn’t. All of a sudden, your whole body just feels warm.
The device can alleviate a sudden chill, plus it’ll be your saving grace if you experience hot flashes or are trapped on a hot subway car. The heating or cooling effect comes in waves, so it doesn’t give off a constant heat like a hand warmer does, but if you are always cold, or run hot, it truly is a lifesaver and is worth its steep asking price.
